Overview
This article covers the setup and installation process for our different Entagged models (M, N1, N2), focusing on connecting the magnetic USB plug, positioning HDMI/USB cables, and ensuring proper functionality through compatibility checks. Unique installation details for each model are included.
Setting Up Your Entagged Device
Before you start, ensure you have the correct Entagged model, USB or HDMI cable, and magnetic plug (if applicable) for your camera. You can check the compatibility list here. On some cameras, you may have to change a USB setting in your camera’s menu to prepare it for the Entagged device.
For Canon, Nikon, Sony, or Fujifilm cameras
- Snap the magnetic USB plug onto the back of the Entagged device.
- Looking at the front of the Entagged device, with the logo toward you and the socket at the top, plug the HDMI cable into the Entagged unit so that the cable points toward the right. This is critical for the Entagged device to function properly.
- Plug the Entagged device into your camera’s USB port and the HDMI cable into the HDMI port. Should the HDMI plug be too close above the Entagged device, you can rotate the Entagged device (on the magnetic plug) by 90º or 180º to provide more space. The magnetic connection protects both the plug and the camera port, even if knocked accidentally during transport or use. Don’t worry — the Entagged device will always remain attached via the HDMI cable, so you won’t lose it.
Note: If your camera has a Micro-USB 3.0 Socket, the Micro-USB 2.0 magnetic plug fits into the wider half of the Micro-USB 3.0 socket, as it is designed to be backward-compatible.
If you like, you can loop the HDMI cable behind the Entagged for a neater look.
For Nikon cameras with a round 10-pin accessory terminal
- Looking at the front of the Entagged, with the logo toward you and the socket at the top, plug the USB cable into the Entagged so that the cable points toward the right. This is critical for the Entagged to function properly.
- Plug the Entagged into the round remote socket on the front of your camera. Don’t worry if it’s a little hard to plug in. The Entagged is designed to stay on the camera all the time, so we made it a tight fit. Wiggling it a little can help while plugging it in.
- Plug the other end of the cable into the USB port of your camera. If it has a Micro-USB 3.0 Socket, don’t worry – the Micro-USB 2.0 plug fits into the wider (bottom) half of the Micro-USB 3.0 socket.
For Nikon cameras with a rectangular 10-pin accessory terminal
- Looking at the front of the Entagged, with the logo toward you and the socket at the top, plug the USB cable into the Entagged so that the cable points toward the left. This is critical for the Entagged to function properly.
- Plug the Entagged into the rectangular remote socket on the side of the camera. The Entagged is designed to stay on the camera all the time, so we made it a tight fit.
- Plug the other end of the cable into the camera. Turn on your camera to power the Entagged. You don’t need to charge the Entagged as it’s powered by a tiny amount of power from your camera battery. Start the App on your phone and pair your Entagged, as described in the pairing tutorial.
The Takeaway
By following these steps, you've successfully plugged in your Entagged device, ensuring a secure and functional connection to your camera. You're now ready to pair your Entagged device with your Entagged app and/or a barcode scanner to enhance your photography workflow.
