Use your own domain with DNS Forwarding

Table of contents

Overview

Subdomains are available as soon as you register your GotPhoto account. You can choose your custom subdomain (e.g., yourname.gotphoto.com) to use as your store's web address.

If you’d like to use your own custom domain (e.g., www.yourdomain.com), you'll need to set up DNS forwarding through your domain provider. This article explains how to configure it correctly.

Setup

⚠ Important: Only set up domain forwarding if the domain is not already used for an independent website. This feature will not work if your domain is already hosting a stand-alone website with its own content and structure.

While steps may vary slightly depending on your domain provider, the process is generally the same. Choose the section below based on whether you're forwarding a main domain or a subdomain.

A. Forwarding your main domain (e.g., www.yourdomain.com)

  1. Log in to your domain provider's control panel and open the domain settings.
  2. Create an A Record pointing to IP address 52.30.220.0.
  3. Create the subdomain www.
  4. Create a CNAME for www pointing to secure.gotphoto.com.
  5. In your GotPhoto admin panel, navigate to:
    • Online Shop → Domain & Integration → Connect your domain
    • [Classic Interface: Settings → Domain & Integration]
  6. Then enter your main domain.

B. Forwarding a subdomain (e.g., shop.yourdomain.com)

  1. Log in to your domain provider's control panel and go to domain settings.
  2. Create the desired subdomain (e.g., shop).
  3. Create a CNAME for that subdomain pointing to secure.gotphoto.com.
  4. In GotPhoto, go to Settings → Domain & Integration → Connect your domain and enter your subdomain.

Note: DNS changes can take up to 24 hours to propagate.

Too technical? Reach out to your domain provider’s support team. This is a common and straightforward request they should be able to assist with.

Enabling your free SSL certificate

Once your A Record and CNAME are configured correctly, go to your Settings → Domain Integration tab in GotPhoto and click Enable SSL Certificate to secure your custom domain with HTTPS—free of charge.

The takeaway

Strengthen your brand by using your own domain for your GotPhoto store. With just a few DNS settings and the option to activate a free SSL certificate, you can enhance both professionalism and customer trust on your sales page.
