Overview
Longer photo upload times are usually linked to the speed of your internet connection. Keep in mind that your maximum download speed is often much higher than your maximum upload speed, which directly affects how quickly photos are sent to GotPhoto.
Understanding upload speed
Example: With a standard internet connection of 16 Mbps:
- Maximum upload speed is typically around 1 Mbps (128 KB/s).
- In practice, average upload speed is closer to 760 Kbps (95 KB/s).
This means large photo files can take significantly longer to upload.
Ways to improve upload times
You can speed up the upload process by adjusting how you prepare your files:
- Resize photos before uploading. Upload images at a size that is still sufficient for sales but smaller than the largest available file.
- Upload lower-quality images first. Let customers browse lower-resolution versions, then replace them with higher-quality originals using the Manual Revision feature.
The takeaway
Upload times are limited by your internet’s upload speed, which is slower than your download speed. To save time, resize your photos before uploading or use lower-resolution previews that can be swapped for full-quality versions later.
