The new GotPhoto Tagging App (Open Beta)

Table of contents

Overview

The GotPhoto app is a mobile application designed for all GotPhoto users - whether or not you use a physical Entagged device. It enables efficient, paperless photo tagging directly on a smartphone or tablet during picture day, even when internet connectivity is limited or unstable.

The GotPhoto beta photo tagging app delivers a modern mobile experience with improved usability and a stronger technical foundation for future development.

This mobile app has been completely rebuilt from the ground up using modern design principles and technology. While the core tagging workflow remains familiar to Entagged users, the overall in-app experience has been redesigned to reduce friction in everyday use, simplify navigation, improve device management, and provide a more intuitive, touch-optimized interface. This article explains how to download and access the beta mobile app and how to use its main features.

What is the beta app?

[Beta] The beta app is an early version of the new GotPhoto tagging app that is still being developed and improved.

This means:

  • Features may change or be refined.
  • Some functions may not yet be fully available.
  • Updates may be released frequently.
  • User feedback directly influences development priorities.

Recommendation: For your current jobs, please continue using the Entagged app. The GotPhoto beta app is still being actively developed and is not yet ready to be used for real jobs.

Access the beta app

Download and install the beta app based on your device type:

  • Android: Scan the respective QR code with your phone to download the app from the Google Play Store.
  • iOS: First download the TestFlight app from the Apple App Store. Then scan the QR code to download the GotPhoto beta app.

If you do not use an Entagged device, continue with Use the Name List QR feature (no Entagged device required).

Pair your Entagged device

  1. Tap Devices in the app.
  2. Pair your Entagged (the process is similar to the pairing process in the Entagged app).
  3. Select the device under Additional Devices.
  4. Confirm pairing. The device will move to My Entaggeds.

Follow the picture day workflow

Watch the walkthrough below to see how the workflow looks on picture day when using a physical Entagged device together with a name list subscription.

Use the Name List QR feature (no Entagged device required)

This workflow allows you to tag photos using digital QR cards directly in the app. No physical Entagged device is required. You only need a GotPhoto account.

Follow the digital QR workflow

  1. Select a job’s name list.
  2. Select a subject.
  3. Photograph the QR code displayed in the app.
  4. Take the subject’s photos.
  5. Repeat for the next subject.

Switch from Entagged barcode tagging to Name List QR

You can switch to Name List QR whenever your Entagged device is disconnected. This allows you to access your job’s name list, select a subject, and photograph their digital QR code directly from the app.

Important: If you switch mid-session from using the physical Entagged device to photographing digital QR codes:

  1. Delete the last saved code from your camera’s metadata.
  2. Upload photos to separate albums.
  • Upload all photos tagged using the Entagged device into one album.
  • Upload all photos where you photographed digital QR codes into a different, separate album.

Uploading both types of photos into the same album will cause activation issues.

Scan codes with Entagged

This feature requires a physical Entagged device. An additional Bluetooth scanner is [Optional]. The app includes a built-in scanning feature.

Next to the status dot, you will see the Entagged model and either the serial number (while connecting) or the camera model name (once fully connected). On the right side, you will find the SD card storage indicator and camera battery level.

The takeaway

The GotPhoto beta app provides a modern tagging experience while maintaining familiar Entagged workflows.

  • Use a physical Entagged device for traditional barcode tagging.
  • Use Name List QR for a fully digital workflow without hardware.
  • Switch carefully between methods and upload to separate albums to avoid activation issues.
  • Share feedback to help shape the final production version.

For your current jobs, please continue using the Entagged app until the beta app is fully finalized and ready to be used in real jobs.
