Pair the Entagged Device with your Phone, Name List, and/or Barcode Scanner

Overview

Pairing your Entagged device with your phone is a quick process that enhances barcode scanning during photography. By following these steps, you can easily set up the connection and ensure smooth integration between your camera, Entagged device, and mobile app.

Pairing the Entagged Device for the First Time

Here’s how to pair your Entagged device when using it for the first time.

  1. Plug in your Entagged device and turn on your camera. The Entagged device’s LED will light up yellow when it is plugged into the camera correctly and is getting power.

  2. Download and install the free Entagged app from the Apple App Store or the Google Play Store.

  3. Open the app and allow Bluetooth Access.

  4. Read through the first on-boarding screens by swiping left. Tap START SEARCHING.

  5. The app will continuously search for Entagged devices to pair with. It’s so quick, your Entagged might already be there from the start.

  6. Tap on the Entagged device you want to pair. If the pairing is successful, a checkmark will appear. Tap DONE.

  7. Make sure you allow the app to use your phone’s camera. The app uses your phone’s camera as a barcode scanner.

From now on, the Entagged device will always automatically reconnect with your phone when you turn on your camera. When it is connected to the app, the Entagged device’s LED will light up in turquoise.

Pairing Additional Devices and/or Re-Pairing
⚠ Important: Each Entagged device can only be connected to one smartphone at a time. This means you can connect one Entagged to multiple phones, however it can only be used by one of them at a time (e.g. Jesse and James can both pair Entagged Device #1  with their smartphones; Jesse can use the Entagged device on a Tuesday shoot, and James can use the Entagged device on a Wednesday shoot, but if they are shooting together at the same time, they will not be able to use the same device. Remember: The Entagged will try to pair with any device it range that it has previously connected to, so double-check that you've connected to the correct device if you share your Entagged between users.

If you’ve already paired an Entagged device before, here’s how to pair additional Entagged devices or re-pair an Entagged device after unpairing it:

  1. Plug in your Entagged device and turn on your camera. The Entagged device’s LED will light up yellow when it is plugged into the camera correctly and is getting power.

  2. Navigate to the YOUR ENTAGGEDS screen by tapping the Entagged settings icon at the bottom of the app menu.

  3. In the YOUR ENTAGGEDS screen, the app will continuously search for Entaggeds to pair with. Your Entagged might even be there from the start.

  4. Just tap on the Entagged device you'd like to pair. If the pairing was successful, the Entagged will move to the top area of the screen and its name will change from the Entagged’s serial number to your camera’s model name.

From now on, the Entagged device will always automatically reconnect with your phone when you switch on your camera. When it is connected to a phone or tablet, the Entagged device's LED will shine turquoise.

The switch to the right of the Entagged device lets you disable and re-enable it manually if necessary. The Entagged device can only be connected to one app at a time, so if you want to pair and use it with a second phone or tablet, you will need to disable it on the first phone or unpair it.

If no Entagged devices are enabled, the app will automatically switch to a “Virtual Entagged” indicated at the top of each main screen. This is exclusively a demo mode to test app features or to show a friend or colleague how the app works, when you don’t have an Entagged connected. Note that no codes will be sent to the camera when there is no Entagged device connected!

Pairing the Entagged Device with the Name List Feature

This step is only relevant for photographers who wish to subscribe to the Name List feature. Please follow the instructions in the previous steps first.

Pair the Entagged Device with a Barcode Scanner

In this section we will briefly review how to pair your Entagged with a compatible Opticon-brand Bluetooth scanner (if applicable).

For more detailed information about your Opticon scanner, please refer to your Opticon user manual. Please note that as Opticon scanners are not GotPhoto products, we do not provide customer support for them, but we are always happy to assist you with any questions you may have about your Entagged device.

  1. Make sure you have a compatible barcode scanner.
  2. Connect your Entagged device to your camera by following the directions in this article.
  3. Enable your scanner's Bluetooth Low Energy Mode. If you received a sheet of Quick Start barcodes with your scanner, the Bluetooth Low Energy Mode barcode should be at the bottom of the page. Scan the barcode by pressing and holding the large button and pointing the laser at the barcode. If you do not have this sheet, you can find the barcode labeled Interface → Defaults → Bluetooth Low Energy at the bottom of this page (Depending on your scanner model, you may need to print the page).
  4. Open the Entagged app. Your phone will automatically reconnect to your paired Entagged device, indicated by a small turquoise dot in the top left corner of the app.
  5. Navigate to the YOUR ENTAGGEDS screen by tapping the settings icon at the bottom of the app menu.

  6. Tap on the Entagged device that you'd like to pair the scanner to, then tap Accessories. On this screen, the app will continually search for available scanners.

  7. Turn on the scanner and activate pairing mode by pressing and holding its button for five seconds while holding it near the Entagged device.

  8. The scanner should now appear in the list in the app. Tap on the scanner to pair.

  9. If paired successfully, the scanner will emit a single high-pitched beep, and its name will move to the top of the app screen.

  10. The scanner is now successfully paired to your Entagged device. From now on, Entagged will automatically reconnect to your scanner when you turn on your camera and scanner. When scanning a code, press the large button until you hear a series of four beeps:

Two beeps going up (low to high): The code was scanned successfully.
Two beeps going up (high to higher): The code was successfully sent and saved in your camera.

Unpairing an Entagged Device
  1. Navigate to the YOUR ENTAGGEDS screen by tapping the Entagged settings icon at the bottom of the app menu.
  2. Tap on the Entagged device you want to unpair. You can also unpair Entagged devices that are not currently connected.
  3. Tap Unpair Entagged.

The Takeaway

Once paired, the Entagged device automatically reconnects with your phone whenever you turn on your camera, streamlining your workflow for consistent and reliable barcode scanning.
