Overview
Index photos (aka "favorite photos" or "starred photos") serve a few different purposes for your job:
- It's the default photo that will be downloaded if you run a student data export.
- It's the "chosen" photo that will be used to fulfill prepay orders if you have more than 1 image per subject in the gallery.
- It will be the photo in the banner of your online shop if you have asked customers to pick their favorite/yearbook/ID photo.
By default, the first image after the QR card will be the index photo. In this article, we'll review how to assign a new index picture for a gallery, as well as how to set a new cover photo for an album in a Photo Job with a single access code.
Setting a New Index Photo
By default, the first image that follows the hidden QR card photo is the index photo, marked with a star icon:
If you use barcode tagging, the index/favorite photo will be the first image in the gallery by default.
To assign a different index picture to a gallery:
- Within your Photo Job, click on the Photo Management tab.
- In the album overview, select the album to which you want to assign the index photo and open it.
- Click on the photo you wish to use as an index photo. A preview picture will open on the top right. Below this preview picture, you will find the option to tag the image as favorite image.
- Once you click the star icon, the selected picture will show a new star icon: If you hover over it with your cursor, it will say "Your selection". It will overwrite any 5-star rated photo.
⚠ Important: If the customer has selected their favorite photo or yearbook photo, that will become the new index photo. The customer's selection always overrides the photographer's selection. In this case, the image will show a heart icon in the subject's gallery. However, you can override the customer's selection within a student data export.
To summarize, the favorite / yearbook photo priority logic (from highest to lowest) is:
- Customer selection in the shop (if enabled)
- Photographer selection in Photo Management (if applied).
- 5-star rating (via the photo's metadata or Photo Management; if multiple, the first 5-star rated photo in the gallery is chosen). If you accidentally gave a photo a 5-star rating, don't worry! Simply select the photo again and click the 5-star icon to remove the rating.
- Default selection (photo after the QR card, or first image for Entagged galleries).
Please note that by default, one photo from your gallery is marked as the index photo. To remove the marking from a photo, you need to select another photo as the new key photo.
Setting a New Album Cover Photo
In a Photo Job with a single access code (i.e., a photo job comprised solely of group shots that is accessed by all buyers with the same access code), you can adjust the cover photo for each album in the job. This feature will only have an effect in jobs with multiple albums.
By default, the first image in the gallery will be the cover photo. To assign a different cover photo:
- Within your Photo Job, click on the Photo Management tab.
- In the album overview, select the album to which you want to assign the index photo and open it.
- Click on the photo you wish to use as a cover photo. A preview picture will open on the top right. Below this preview picture, you will find the option to tag the image as a cover photo.
- Once you click the star icon, the selected picture will show this new star icon: If you hover over it with your cursor, it will say "Cover Photo".
